Kate Danaher and Amy Lou MacCloud were introduced to the crowd at the Lower Brandywine Storytelling Festival in 2007, making the 2009 Festival their third with us. Although they have been performing together in various forms for more than 20 years, notably as the founders of the children’s entertainment troupe, Fiddlin’ and Foolin’, that 2007 performance may just have launched them to the national storytelling stage. The rave reviews included that of the Wilmington News Journal, which proclaimed: “Danaher and MacCloud absolutely stole the show.’ Darned right we’re pleased to have them back.
Kate’s complete character immersion in stories from the collection of her friend, the late Eamon Kelly, of Dublin, Ireland, is a beautiful thing to behold. She delivers delightfully riveting, poignant and humorous tales of Irish country life and the Irish American experience.
But the symbiotic relationship of these two performers is what makes Kate’s stories resonate. The relationship is as comfortable and natural as what you’d see on the front porch of Amy Lou's mountain home. Point and musical counterpoint. Kate’s County Sligo style Irish fiddle meets Amy’s Russell County Virginia autoharp, guitar, banjo, and mountain dulcimer. The result is a joyous celebration sparkling with harmony and wit. And one you won’t want to miss.
Kate is also a professional screenwriter and actor. She studied with the great Sligo fiddler, John Vesey, and has been a song and fiddle competitor in All-Ireland Championships. Amy has served as Music Director of the Delaware Shakespeare Festival and is also the lead vocalist in the jazz ensemble, Cloud 9.
